SRINAGAR- Minister for Urban Development and Urban Local Bodies, Mr. Nawang Rigzin Jora chaired a meeting to review the functioning of Town Planning Organisation, Kashmir in his office chambers here today.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner Secretary, Housing and Urban Development Department and the Chief Town Planner, Town Planning Organisation Kashmir.
During the meeting, the Chief Town Planner Kashmir made a power point presentation highlighting the importance of the department in ensuring planned development of our cities and towns. A detailed overview of the projects, schemes and master plans completed or taken up by the department was also presented during the meeting.
The Chief Town Planner apprised the Minister about the major issues and challenges confronted by the department. He emphasized that given the on-going spate of urbanization of the State, delimitation of districts and increase in the number of towns, a comprehensive restructuring and strengthening of Town Planning Organisation, revisiting existing planning legislation and strengthening the Urban Local bodies (ULBs) with professional town planners has become inevitable.
The Minister appreciated the pivotal role of the department and assured that steps to be taken to address the issues faced by the department.
Mr. Jora also directed for the finalization of the proposal for reorganization of the department under the supervision of the Commissioner Secretary, Housing & Urban Development Department in consultation with the Chief Town Planner, Kashmir and the Chief Town Planner, Jammu.
