Additional deployment made at vital points: IGP Kashmir
SRINAGAR: With only two days left for the re-opening of Durbar here, security in the city and its peripheries has been tightened further.
Sources said that high-level meetings by police were being held to finalize the deployments particularly at the vulnerable points.
All the security arrangements have been made regarding the opening of Civil Secretariat, The security cover has been strengthened with enforcement of additional personnel at vital points Inspector General Police Kashmir Abdul Ghani Mir said.
Asked about deployment of additional security companies Mir said, We are assessing the security scenario regarding the smooth opening and functioning of the Secretariat. Steps will also be taken soon if more security companies are required, he added.
On protest threats by employees on the opening of Durbar Move, the IGP said, Peaceful protests are welcome as these are a part of democratic setup. Everybody has a right to highlight demands, but if any group indulges in ransacking of public property or create hurdles in the functioning of government, we are fully prepared to deal with such situation.
Sources said that police is monitoring the activities of suspicious people through CCTVs installed at the most sensitive locations. Surveillance cameras have been providing useful information to police and keeping a close vigil on subversive activities during the traffic jams and movement of VIPs, they said.
As the cameras have 360-degree rotation, their pictures keep a strict vigil on movement in sensitive areas, which is significant from security point of view, sources added.
