SRINAGAR; Srinagar Municipal Corporation kick started a week long sanitation drive today. The drive which began from Naayid Yaar area was inaugurated by Joint Commissioner Administration Bashir Ahmed Khan.
Bashir Ahmed Khan who was flanked by Secretary SMC Hilal Ahmed Diwaani and other Senior Municipal Officers interacted with the locals of the area and ensured them that various measures would be taken to deliver better and qualitative sanitation services to the locals.
The water channel that flows through the Naidyaar Kadal was extensively cleaned up and all the floating garbage was lifted by utilizing services of boats and khuchus.
The bad spotted and stinky areas in the interiors of Ward Dal and Bemina including Boat Colony, Shah Colony, MIG Colony and Mansoor Colony remained in focus in the first phase. Similarly the focus would be on outskirt areas of the city where extensive sanitation drive other than the daily routine will be conducted
The Commissioner SMC Dr Qasba in this regard has issued instructions that during the week long sanitation drive all the bad spots and nuisance areas of the city has to be identified where a massive sanitation would be conducted and fumigated with the assistance of extra man power .The soakage pits in the various areas shall be sanitized.
During the drive the conversion of identified open garbage sheds into smart bins and dumper bins will take place and all the ward officers will ensure the washing of smart bins in their respective wards.
SMC during the sanitation week shall organize public meetings of citizens, institution heads, butchers, poultry shop keepers, hoteliers to create awareness among people regarding cleanliness and waste segregation encouraging them for paying user charges for delivery of services from SMC.
