Addressing the representatives of traders bodies at SKICC here today IGP highlighed the trader-police partnership for overall benefit of society and said that drug addiction among the youth has emerged as a biggest social menace and as a society all have to come forward to eradicate this threat.
The interactive meeting was attended by DIG South Mr. Vijay Kumar, DIG North J P Singh, DIG Central Afhad-ul-Mujtaba, DIG Traffic Jagjit Kumar, all District Sr. Superintendents of police and Superintendents of Police , all Zonal SPs of the District Srinagar. Among trader federation, the meeting was attended by President Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers association Mr. Mohammad Yasin Shah, Sr. Vice President Manzoor Ahmad Bhat , Secretary General Bashir Ahmad Kongposh and the representatives of district traders bodies.
Militancy has taken a toll of our previous generation and now drug addiction is posing as an alarming threat to the next one. The onslaught of the drug addiction needs to be fought collectively in which schools, teachers, parents traders, druggists and chemists and police have a vital role to play. IGP added that police on its part has taken various measures and looks forward to take new initiatives in its effort of eradication of this menace.
IGP stressed upon the police officers to take effective measures to contain the acts of burglaries that pose a economic threat to our trader community as it brings financial losses to their businesses. In this direction the process of installing CCTVs at various vulnerable places has been started. He also asserted police has to change its attitudinal behaviors while dealing with general public by good manners and humility and polite and firm behavior.
The IGP said that a mechanism has been put in place where in counseling is being provided to the stone pelters so that they will get a chance to stop such miscreant activities , besides, the IGP assured that it is after the police gets all the relevant evidences with respect any person involved in stone pelting that their arrest is effected.
IGP emphasized upon the traders to utilize RTI Acts and Public Services Guarantee Act. He informed them that among the services that have been earmarked in the public services guarantees Act, police five services come in the ambit of our department. He appealed them to take full benefits of these acts.
IGP directed the district police officers to conduct similar police – public interactions in their respective districts. He said that mere sight of the police should bring shiver to the spine among the criminals while for a common man, a policeman should bring a sense of security in him. IGP said that any special information regarding corruption with the police department will earn a quick action against the erring official.
The President Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers association Mr. Mohammad Yasin Shah in his address in the meeting said that he has firm faith in the initiative of police-public interaction that has always been promoted by the traders federation since 2011. He said that the police is the face of the Government and so the behavior of police with the general masses should be comforting.
The representatives of traders bodies of Kupwara, Baramulla, Sopore Ganderbal, Anantnag, Shopian, Lal chowk and Regal chowk Srinagar also attended the gathering. In their addresses they sought more and more such interactions at district levels as well, so that the gap between the police and people is bridged. They sought police action in checking corruption and waywardness in the society. They also impressed upon the Police Officers to take measures to check the incidences of burglaries in their respective areas. They also sought Police help in eradication of menace of drugs. Some of the speakers sought police recruitment drives in their areas.
