SRINAGAR: The ‘morning deal’ has come to a halt in some parts of downtown, Srinagar after some unknown people pasted posters on walls and shop shutters asking shop-keepers to close down their businesses till September 27.
Since abrogation of Article 370 and division of Jammu and Kashmir into two Union Territories on August 05, Kashmir has been witnessing spontaneous shutdown.
According to witnesses, people have been opening up their shops and other business establishments across Srinagar from 06:00 Am to 09:00 am while the businesses remain shut throughout the day.
On Tuesday, witnesses said, that situation was altogether different as an eerie calm prevailed in most of the lanes, by-lanes and other interior markets. The witnesses said that almost all the shops remained closed today in Old City areas including Habba Kadal, Kani Kadal, Chinkral Mohalla, up-town Maisuma.
Witnesses said that some unknown persons had pasted posters on electric polls and shops in some areas of Old City on Sunday, appealing the shopkeepers not to open their shops from Monday (Sep 23) till upcoming Friday (Sep 27).
Many of the locals believe that Sep 27 when the Prime Ministers of India and Pakistan are going to make statements on Kashmir at the UN General Assembly Council session, will end the stalemate in Kashmir where spontaneous shutdown is being observed by the people from last 50 days.
