Srinagar – Awami National Conference today accused Ladakh Hill Development Council of turning a blind eye to illegal sale of thousands of kanals of government land by Tibetan refugees in Leh district.
Party Sr. Vice President Muzaffar Shah in a statement today alleged that refugees from a particular community were given benefits by the Council which it said discriminated against refugees from minority community.
Tibetan refugees who escaped from Tibet and crossed over to Ladakh in early fifties were allotted thousands of kannals of land for carrying on their livelihood.
Many of them fled to the Western countries for greener pastures and illegally sold the allotted land and those who stayed back have built multistoried commercial complexes on the said land while the allotment was only for single storied dwellings violating all environmental and building norms.
The District Administration and LHDC act as mute spectators, he alleged.
He further said that people from only one community represent the administration in Leh, while the minorities are ignored violating their basic rights.
LHDC has also totally ignored the minorities .
During the tenure of late Sheri Kashmir utmost care was taken to maintain a balance in the Administration to the satisfaction of all communities and even during late G.M.Shahs tenure as Chief Minister care in this respect was taken and a revolutionary step of conferring Schedule Tribe Status was taken.
Steps are being taken to negate all this and the minorities are being discriminated against.
Mr. Shah has impressed upon the need of providing equal opportunity and an end to the discrimination against the minorities in Ladakh, so that the people of Ladakh live in peace and united as they lived before.
