Srinagar: Five family members in Kunzar Tangmarag beat a Sarpanch to pulp after he resisted their move to occupy a piece of government land which youth of the area use as a play field. Police arrested all the assailants and shifted the Sarpanch to nearby hospital. According to police, five persons from the same family including Ghulam Mohi-u-Din Shiekh, Showkat Shiekh, Shabir Shiekh, Ghulam Nabi Shiekh and Ali Mohammad Shiekh were eying on a piece of government land for a long time. This piece of land is being used by youth for recreational activities and some people use it for grazing their cattle. Sub-Divisional Police Officer, Kunzar, Mohammad Yousf Chodri while confirming the arrests of all the accused told CNS that Sarpanch of Gokhama, Kunzar Abdul Gani Para son of Abdul Khaliq objected the move of these persons when they were busy in fencing the said land. All the persons attacked the Sarpanch with canes and beat him to pulp. He was shifted to hospital. Police has registered a case vide FIR number41/2013 under section 34,323,341 and 506 RPC and all the accused have been put behind the bars, he said. Meanwhile, people came on roads and demanded stern action against the culprits. They appealed police and the government to initiate a stern action against them. (CNS)
