Srinagar: Blaming former Director Education for nepotism in the Department of Education, score of Masters from Srinagar City Wednesday held protests in Press Enclave. They alleged that the former Director of Education Mohammad Shafi Rather did not take interest in their transfers and violated the norms of the department.
The mature stay rule in the department is only 2 years. No teacher can be forced to stay in a single district for more than two years. Scores of teachers from Srinagar have been posted in District Ganderbal and Bandipora and we have yet not been brought back to Srinagar even though the mature stay is over, they said.
The protestors said that the former Director of Education posted 60 teachers from his own district in Srinagar just to give them the benefits of House Rent Allownace (HRA). In Srinagar a teacher is entitled for 20 percent HRA while as in other districts the rate is only ten per cent. Further a Master get city compensatory allowance in Srinagar and this is the reason the teachers from Srinagar city are being forced to stay in other districts just to deprive them from these benefits, Abdul Rashid a teacher said.
A woman teacher from Srinagar said that she has multiple health problems and yet she is travelling from Srinagar to Ganderbal from last 4 years. The officials in the Department of Education are insensitive towards the problems of teachers and we appeal to Education Minister to look into the matter, Saira Banoo said.
Minister of Education was not available for the comment while newly posted Director of Education Mir Tariq said that he has not assumed the charge yet. I have not assumed the charge yet. Let these teachers give a representation tomorrow and I will redress their problem, he said. (CNS)
