SRINAGAR Delhi Police arrested Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) affiliate from Srinagar, officials said on Monday.
A police official said that the JeM affiliate Bashir Ahmad, a resident of Sopore, was arrested by police from Budshah Chowk area of Srinagar at 6 p.m. on Monday (July 15, 2019).
According to the police officer Bashir was arrested in 2007 in connection with an FIR number 7/2007 under section 121, 122, 123 IPC and 14 Foreign Act which stands registered in Special Cell New Delhi.
“Bashir was arrested in 2007 by Delhi police and remained behind bars till 2013 and was later released on bail,” his family said.
Later he worked hard and stayed at home besides stared selling bananas on cart in Sopore and suddenly Bashir received information through local police to attend the hearings in Delhi which he could not due to poorness, the family said.
“Later, the court in Delhi had issued warrant against Bashir as he failed to appear on number of previous hearings in connection with a more than 12-year-old case registered against him in national capital, the family said.
Yesterday, we came to know that Bashir was arrested from Srinagar, the family added.
Reports quoting Delhi Police Special Cell said that wanted Jaish-e-Mohammed militant was arrested from Srinagar. Delhi police said that a reward of Rs 2 lakh was announced for his arrest, the reports said.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Cell) Sanjeev Kumar Yadav said that Bashir Ahmad was wanted in a case by the Special Cell and that two of his associates, Faiyyaz and Majeed Baba, were arrested earlier this year.
