SRINAGAR Northern Railways has decided to suspend train services between Qazigund and Banihal from 10 am to 3 pm till completion of ongoing Amarnath Yatra.
Train operations will remain suspended between Qazigund-Banihal railway section from 10 am to 3 pm till completion of Amarnath Yatra, reads a communication issued by the Railway authorities.
Meanwhile reacting to it, Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM) chairman Shah Faesal on said that the Amarnath Yatris are welcome to the land of Shiva but the suspension of the train services during the yatra must end
The JKPM chairman said that in last 30 years for first time the national highway was closed for civilian movement and has been again closed for the annual yatra.
First time in last 30 years SXR-JMU NH was closed to civilian traffic during elections. Now closed again for Yatra. Those signing orders to stop movement of locals must remembr that there wl b a day of reckoning. We welcome Yatris to land of Shiva. But this curfew must end, Faesal said on twitter.
Meanwhile, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry delegation led by Nasir Hamid Khan, Senior Vice President met the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan regarding the imposition of restrictions on the movement of civilian traffic on the Highway and other places. The impact of the restrictions on various sectors of the economy was also deliberated upon, according to a statement by the traders body.
Nasir Hamid Khan apprised the Divisional Commissioner about the difficulties being faced by Tourists and persons associated with the tourism sector due to the restrictions, the statement said. Various suggestions were put forth for facilitation of movement of tourist vehicles including treating the Tourist Forms as Movement Passes and also putting identification stickers on the Tourist Vehicles.
The KCC&I delegation also requested for deputing Special Tourist Police Officers at the various Check/Nakka Points for redressing grievances of the tourists and facilitating their vehicle movement. The Divisional Commissioner was requested to consider treating travel tickets and hotel bookings as valid passes.
