SRINAGAR The Jammu and Kashmir High Court on Thursday directed Service Selection Recruitment Board to submit a status report on an affidavit with regard to the recruitment of various non-gazetted posts in the Drugs and Food Control Organization.
A division bench of Chief Justice Gita Mital and Justice Tashi Rabstan passed the directions after perusal of status report filed by Atal Dulloo, Principal Secretary to Government, Health and Medical Education Department, disclosing the status of the sanctioned posts as well as the vacancy position and the steps taken for recruitment by the government.
It appears that matter with regard to appointment of non-gazetted staff stand referred to Service Selection Recruitment Board, the court said and issued a direction to the Service Selection Recruitment Board to submit a status report on an affidavit with regard to the recruitment of various nongazetted posts in the Drugs and Food Control Organization.
Such affidavit shall be filed within four weeks from the date of receipt of copy of this order, the court said.
In 2016, the High Court had taken suo-moto cognisance of news reports on the food adulteration and rising cancer incidence and treated them as a Public Interest Litigation.
In one of the directions, the High Court stressed need for prohibitory measures for strict implementation of Food Safety and Security Act in the state.
Lifting of samples on regular basis and testing, launching of prosecution is good but something more is required to be done by the authorities concerned. Simply launching of prosecution and lifting of samples is not to cure the disease, some prohibitory including preventive measures are required to be taken, the court had said.
The Food Safety and Security Act, 2006, which was not implemented for a long time, is now in its implementation with the intervention of the Court.
