SRINAGAR More than 40 more persons were picked up by the government forces from south Kashmirs poll bound districts of Pulwama and Shopian on Wednesday night.
Reports said that the government forces during various night raids picked up 38 persons from Tahab and Chewakalan villages of Pulwama.
A police official at Shopian said that the forces raided Vehil and Narwah villages of the district and detained six persons.
The arrestees were lodged in a holding cell at Police station Shopian, the official said.
Although the police did not give any reason for the detentions, it is believed that the people taken into custody had been involved in disturbing law and order in these two districts in the past.
Voting in the third and final phase for the Anantnag Lok Sabha seat is scheduled on May 6.
Mirwaiz condemns ‘arrest spree’
Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Thursday strongly condemned the arrest spree in south Kashmirs districts of Shopian and Pulwama ahead of parliamentary elections.
Strongly condemn the daily arrest spree of youth from Pulwama and Shopian. Continued repression in #SouthKashmir is heart rendering, said the Mirwaiz on Twitter.
Unless all those who claim to speak for fundamental #HumanRights of all dont speak up, people of Kashmir will continue to be at the receiving end, he said.
