SRINAGAR A police constable was shot at and critically injured when suspected militants carried out an attack in Khanyar area of Srinagar on Wednesday evening.
The police head constable, who had come home on leave, was fired upon by the suspected militants who barged into his house in Kaw Mohalla Khanyar .
The injured cop, Iliyas Ahmad, was shifted to SMHS hospital from where he was shifted to SKIMS Soura for advanced treatment. “We have received the patient (Iliyas). He is alive but his condition is critical,” Dr Farooq Jan, Medical Superintendent of SKIMS said.
Sources said that Iliyas, a selection grade constable, is presently working in police department’s intelligence wing at Handwara.
A police officer also confirmed the incident and said that the area has been cordoned off to nab the attackers. This is the second attack in the Srinagar in less than a fortnight after militants targeted a police post at Chanpora area.
