SRINAGAR Leh thoroughfare reopened after four months closure while no fresh traffic shall be allowed on Monday on Srinagar-Jammu highway, authorities said.
Only stranded vehicles shall be allowed towards Srinagar, a traffic department official said here in a statement issued here.
He said only one-way traffic shall be allowed on Srinagar-Sonamarg-Gumari Road, opened after four months today. Only LMV shall be allowed from Sonamarg towards Minimarg from 0900 hours to 1300 hours, he said, adding, No vehicle shall be allowed after cut of timings.
He said that the commuters are advised not to travel during night hours. No movement of any type of vehicle shall be allowed from opposite direction, he said, adding, People are advised to undertake journey on highway only after confirming status of the road.
Only Light Motor Vehicles (LMV) for the time being shall be allowed to ply on the road till further orders. LMVs shall be allowed, subject to certification by the authorities maintaining the road (Chief Engineer, Beacon/Vijayak) that the condition of the road is traffic worthy. District Superintendent of Police, Ganderbal/Kargil shall obtain road clearance certificate from Beacon/Vijayak on daily basis before allowing any vehicle to ply, divisional commissioner Kashmir said in a notification issued here.
No vehicle shall be allowed to ply in case of any adverse report with respect to the condition of road and avalanche warning. It shall be ensured that vehicles are in good condition and loaded with snow tyre/anti skid chains before allowing them to ply, it said, adding, District authorities shall also consider weather advisory on daily basis before allowing the traffic movement. Beacon/Traffic police department will deploy sufficient number of recovery vans enroute to obviate any chances of road blockage due to breaking down of any vehicle.
