SRINAGAR A handful of families have used Jammu and Kashmir for emotional blackmail, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Friday and dared them to say the same thing in New Delhi that they say in Kashmir.
He also described the BJP’s alliance with the PDP, now broken , as a “maha-milavat” (adulteration) of divergent ideologies.
In an interview to Aaj Tak Hindi news channel, Modi said: “We have an understanding of Jammu and Kashmir and we did not require the experience of being in government for five years as I have worked there in the organisation and I used to go to all parts of the state.”
He further said: “Only Atalji’s formula can work — Insaniyat, Kashmiriyat, Jamoohriyat has to work.
Slamming a few political families in the state, the Prime Minister said: “A small section of families has found the way to blackmail the people of Jammu and Kashmir. When Mufti Mohammed Saeed Saheb was there, we were hopeful.

“We expected Mufti Sahab would help us come out of it. But that turned out to be a maha-milavat [adulteration]. It was like a mixture of oil and water,” he continued. “Still we went for it but acknowledged that both of us are poles apart. There was no other option than to follow the people’s verdict. So we went along. Then we left it for the sake of democracy.”
The Prime Minister challenged the mainstream regional parties of Jammu and Kashmir to stick to one stand in Srinagar and in Delhi.
The double-speak of the handful of families, who speak one thing in Kashmir and the other in Delhi, has to be exposed. And that is what I am doing,” he said, and contused, “Theirs is a double-speak. They should have the courage to say the same thing in Kashmir as well as in Delhi and vice versa. But they are not. They speak two languages and are getting exposed.”
He said that those who talk of secession have no right to fight elections an added that J&K has been part of India for thousands of years.
When asked about the BJP’s promise of removing Article 370 and 35A of the Constitution, Modi said, “People who talk of secession have no right to fight elections. J&K has been part India for thousands of years. Questions should be asked to those who talk about secession. Modi further said Article 370 and 35A have done “maximum damage” to Kashmir.
