SRINAGAR The nominations papers of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conferences candidate was rejected on Wednesday after scrutiny, leaving 12 candidates in fray for Srinagar parliamentary constituency
The Returning Officer for Srinagar Parliamentary Constituency, Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary rejected nomination paper of Abid Hussain Ansari of Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Conference.
The candidates left in the fray now include Dr Farooq Abdullah of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Sheikh Khalid Jehangir of Bharatiya Janata Party, Nazir Ahmad Lone of Rashtriya Jankranti Party, Irfan Raza Ansari of J&K Peoples Conference, Abdul Rashid Ganie of J&K National Panthers Party, Abdul Khaliq Bhat of Shiv Sena, Aga Syed Mohsin of J&K Peoples Democratic Party, Nazir Ahmad Sofi of Manavadikar National Party, Showkat Hussain Khan of Janta Dal United, and Abdul Rashid Banday, Bilal Sultan and Sajad Ahmad Dar, all independents.
The last date of withdrawal of candidature is Friday up to 3 PM. The polling will be held on April 18, 2019. The voting hours have been fixed from 7AM to 6 PM.
Meanwhile, nominations papers of 12 candidates have been rejected in the Jammu-Poonch parliamentary constituency after scrutiny of the documents here, an official said.
Returning Officer Ramesh Kumar said 25 contestants in the fray now after rejection of the nomination.
The last date of withdrawal of candidature is Thursday. The polling will be held on April 11.
In Udhampur constituency, 10 candidates filed their nominations on the last date on Tuesday, officials said.
Those who filed their nominations include Harsh Dev Singh of the National Panthers Party and nine Independents, taking the total to 14 nominations.
Sitting MP Jitendra Singh of the Bharatiya Janata Party, Vikramaditya Singh of the Congress, T R Bhagat of the Bahujan Samaj Party and Independent candidate Mohammad Ayub had filed their nominations earlier.
The scrutiny of papers was held on Wednesday and all nominations were found valid. The last date of withdrawal of candidature is Friday. The polling will be held on April 18.
