SRINAGAR Police have arrested a man for stealing 19 mobile phones at the SK Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura here.
Aijaz Ahmad Dar, a resident of Haigam Sopore, currently residing at Waheedpora Ganderbal, would steal mobile phones of patients and attendants waiting in queues for obtaining OPD tickets and other medical reports near ticket and other report collection counters, a police spokesman said.
He said 19 mobile phones worth approximately three lakh rupees were recovered from the accused.
The arrest was made after Police Station Soura received several complaints regarding mobile phone thefts at the premier healthcare facility.
Dar confessed to stealing the mobile phones after he was picked up for questioning, the spokesman said.
The spokesman said Dar would take advantage of the huge rush at the OPD and other counters and steal mobiles of patients and attendants.
Last month, a man was arrested for stealing a doctors laptop at the SMHS Hospital here.
Police had arrested Muzamil Ahmad Malik following inputs that he was planning to sell the laptop at a cheap price in HMT Chowk.
