New Delhi, March 15: The Supreme Court on Friday junked a petition seeking to send Muslims in India to Pakistan and slammed the petitioner. A bench of Justices Rohinton Nariman and Vineet Saran promptly dismissed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) praying that Indian Muslims be sent to Pakistan.
Visibly enraged at the petition, Justice Rohinton Nariman first asked the petitioners counsel to read the prayer out loud. When he completed, according to the Bar and Bench portal, Justice Nariman said: “Do you seriously want to argue this? We will hear you but we will pass strictures against you.”
Sensing a possible repercussion, the lawyer replied in the negative. The Supreme Court then dismissed the petition with any hearing. In India, which identifies itself as a secular country, Muslims make up 14.2 per cent of the population.
