POONCH Two siblings and their mother were killed while as four others including an army major and a soldier were injured as India and Pakistan troops continued shelling at Salootri in Poonch district of Jammu.
Incharge Police Post Jhullas, Sub-Inspector Rasheed Kasana said that two siblings– Mohammad Faizan (5) and Shabnum Kounsar (9) and their mother Rubeena Kounsar wife of Mohammad Younis died on the spot and two other persons suffered injuries when a mortar shell fired by Pakistani army hit their house at Salotri village.
Meanwhile, 300 people comprising 60 households left ward no. 10 in Balnoe in Mankote. Ghulam Hussain (70), who has stayed back, said that India and Pakistan must realize that war was no solution but brings miseries only.
Meanwhile the police officer said that two injured persons have been taken to nearby hospital from where one of them, Younis was referred to GMC Jammu.
Meanwhile, the officer said that two army soldiers including an officer of Major rank of 39 RR also received injuries. “Both the injured were taken to military hospital for treatment”. When reports last came in the shelling was going on in the area.
Heavy shelling Unabated In Rajouri, Poonch
Indian and Pakistani armies on Friday heavily shelled areas along the Line of Control (LoC) on bothside of LoC Jammu and Kashmir’s Rajouri and Poonch districts. A woman was injured.
Officials here said Pakistan troops used heavy guns including Howitzer 105 mm to target civilian areas in Poonch.
“Pakistani troops resorted to firing and mortar shelling along the LOC in Krishnagati sector and it ended around 0130 hour,” an official said.
The firing and mortar shelling continued overnight in several sectors of Poonch and Rajouri districts, the official said adding the Indian Army retaliated strongly and effectively.
A woman identified as Naseem Akhtar was injured in the firing in Mankote area of Poonch, officials said.
“About 1615 hours Friday, Pakistan initiated unprovoked ceasefire violation by shelling with mortars and firing of small arms along LoC in Nowshera sector,” the defence public relations officer said.
On Thursday, a woman was killed and a soldier was injured when Pakistani Army allegedly heavily shelled civilian areas and forward posts in six sectors along the LoC in Poonch and Rajouri districts.
In view of the prevailing situation, authorities have ordered temporary closure of educational institutions in a 5-km radius along the the LoC in Rajouri and Poonch districts.
They have asked all border dwellers to remain inside their homes.
Amid high tension along the LoC, Northern Army Commander Lt Gen Ranbir Singh accompanied by the White Knight Corps Commander, Lt Gen Paramjit Singh visited forward posts in Rajouri Sector to review the operational preparedness on Thursday.
CS Visits LoC Areas, Interacts With People
Chief Secretary, BVR Subrahmanyam on Friday visited various areas in Nowshera sector affected by shelling from across the Line of Control.
During the visit, the Chief Secretary interacted with people hailing from Ganiah, Kalsian and Bhawani and other areas.
The Chief Secretary was apprised of several issues like immediate constructions of new individual and community bunkers, compensation for the damages caused to the residential structures and in the cases of injury, loss of life and livestock. He assured the people that a decision shall be taken to evolve a mechanism for expediting the construction of Border Bunkers.
The Chief Secretary also inspected some of bunkers constructed/under construction in various villages along the Line of Control.
The Chief Secretary was accompanied by District Development Commissioner Rajouri, Mohammad Aijaz Asad, DIG, Rajouri-Poonch range, Vivek Gupta, Senior Superintendent of Police, Yougal Manhas, Additional Deputy Commissioner Nowshera, Sukhdev Singh Samyal, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Sunderbani, Vinod Bhel, Additional SP, Girdhari Lal, Tehsildar Nowshera and Block Development officer, Nowshera.
