7-Day Children Theatre workshop organised in Leh

LEH: To promote theatrical art, encourage staging of modern plays and in the interest of development young theatre in Ladakh region. J&K Cultural Academy [JKAACLL] today organised 7-Days Children Theatre workshop at LTO Auditorium (Ladakh Theatre Organisation).

Tsering Nurboo Martse, President Ladakh Cultural Forum was Chief Guest on the occasion while Sh. Mipham Otsal (NSD) was Guest of Honour cum expert trainer on the workshop.

Tsewang Paljor, SOCA G1, in his welcome address said that the main workshops objective is to highlight the importance of “Theatre in Education” in School level. He said that theatre in education is the one of the main programme included in “Serva Shiksa Abhiyan” but still Ladakh region is lacking behind to implementation of this special course in our school level which is unfortunate for us. He said this kind of workshop play a vital role in everyone life and help the young generation to face the different situation of life, they easily tackle shock moments, changing in their behaviour

and understanding the human life in real way. He stress the young trainee to maintain the discipline during the workshop because the first lesson of the theatre is discipline, without this they can’t learn anything. He explained various schemes being undertaken by the academy and urged all associated with the Art, Culture and Languages to come forward and avail benefits of these schemes. He further said that initially theatre workshop activity was limited to the cities of Jammu & Srinagar but later on it was extended to all the districts of the State included Leh district. 

Tsering Nurboo Martse, Chief Guest on the occasion lauded the Academy effort and congratulates Academy organising such activities time to time which is commendable in itself. He recall the old times of Ladakh where Ladakhi society don’t aware about the theatre importance. After 80’s the first Ladakhi NSD graduate, Sh. Mipham Otsal return back to Ladakh and he introduce the theatre in Ladakh. For his contribution and much effort in performance arts in Ladakh the government of India recognize his commendable service and awarded him by National SNA Award recently. He felt this week long workshop under expert Mipham Otsal guidance help the young children to bring light in their life in all aspect.

Nazir Hussain, Senior Cultural Officer-G1, said on the occasion that we have received good response for Children theatre workshop especially from girls. The children theatre workshop is being undertaken in the discipline of Theatre in education, for School children from the class 8th to 12th standard are taking part in the workshop. He emphasised that present age is of competition and children should give maximum care towards their studies to compete with this modern era. It is equally important to take part in such type of workshops where the children get all-round development. The purpose of theatre workshop is to promote theatre culture and it would ensure old system of theatre at this place. Theatre is very much related to the roots of the society. He further said that theatre is best medium of spreading social message and youth need to be involved. He further added that Youth are driving force in a society and we want to involve them in reviving the theatre culture.

Tsering Chosphel, Editor, said on the occasion that main aim to organise such workshop is to educate and bring the young generation about importance of theatre in education and discipline in their life. To meet these requirements “Theatre Workshops” and “Children Theatre workshop” are being organised by the Academy from time to time. This further said that the workshop having started from today on 26th of March the workshop will last till Ist March 2013.

Trainees participating in the workshop expressed happiness and Content with their first experience in the theatrical world. “I have never thought that such children theatre workshop would ever be conducted here. People in our village are passionate about films, arts and theatre. We are very fortunate and happy to receive such training,” said Padma Dolker, a trainee and a student form Girls Higher Secondary School Leh.

About 50 individuals including young boys and girls artistes from different school were attending the workshop. After conclusion of the workshop, their production would be showcased at the drama festival organised by Academy.

Director/ Trainer of the workshop Mipham Otsal express on the occasion and saying  that Theatre play a vital role in everyone life. He said the need of promoting the theatre movement in the young Ladakh has inspired him to take up the initiative. He added that for centuries Theatre, street plays have played a significant role in communicating important social, cultural and religious messages, especially in the rural areas, where they are an effective medium for influencing social change. The attempt was to make people aware of the need for harmony in the society and to bring an end to violent activities.

People in the audience hoped that such initiatives would help bring about a positive change in the society.  Trainee participating in the workshop Stanzin Angmo said “I feel really happy as I am part of this workshop able to tell the people about theatre and it’s important and carried a message of universal brotherhood and peace.

On the occasion a large number of guests and audience from all over Leh district turned up the occasion. Nazir Hussain, Senior Cultural Officer-G1, presented vote of thanks, while Dr. Thupstan Nurboo, Assistant Editor, conducted the proceedings of the programme.
