SRINAGAR: Declaring non-lethal pepper gas to be highly hazardous for vision, the State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) has issued a public warning forbidding the washing of eyes with water for relief from its effects.
Hearing separate cases of three allegedly pepper gas-related deaths in the Habba Kadal, Aali Kadal and Batmalu quarters of Srinagar recently, the Commission said that complaints over the ill-effects of the anti-riot weapon had been taken up on a priority basis.
In its advisory today, the commission has said that certain ingredients of pepper gas are not water-soluble, and could prove harmful for eyes and vision.
The State High Court too is hearing a petition against the use of pepper gas on demonstrations.
