SRINAGAR Government Forces have arrested at least nine youth during nocturnal raids from two hamlets of South Kashmirs Pulwama district.
The raids were conducted in twin villages of Arihal and Arigam. From Arihal village, two militants Inayat Abdullah Zargar and Saqib Shafi were killed in two gunfights this year.
A police official said that these youth have been arrested on charges of stone-pelting.
Some of the detained youth have been identified as Showkat Ahmad Rather, Shakeel Ahmad Rather, Muzaffar Ahmad Wani, Tariq Ahmad Dar, Bilal Ahmad Ganie, Hilal Ahmad and Sabzar Ahmad Lone all residents of Arigam, Pulwama.
The official added that more arrests are expected in coming days.
Meanwhile, a complete shutdown was observed in Damhal Hanjipora area of South Kashmirs Kulgam district against the raids and subsequent arrest of several youth.
All the shops and business establishments remained shut while skeletal movement of transport was observed on the roads.
Locals said that government forces picked up several innocent youth during nocturan raids and lodged them into different police stations. The arrests sparked spontaneous shutdown in the area.
