SRINAGAR: In a tragic accident a student from Pattan was killed on Monday after hitting an electric pole while standing on the foot-board of a speeding bus.
Twenty-seven year-old Muzaffar Ahmad Mir, a B.Ed student, had boarded a Tata minibus while heading for college from his native village Mamoosa, reports said.
Hanging out of the door of the over-loaded bus, Mir was seriously injured when the speeding vehicle smashed him against a pole on the roadside, they said.
Doctors at the sub-district hospital declared him brought dead.
The driver of the vehicle, Nisar Ahmad Bhat, turned himself over to the police.
Authorities have impounded his bus, and registered a case.
The police returned Mirs body to the family after legal formalities.
