JAMMU: The Minister of State for Home Sajad Ahmad Kichloo today informed the House that State Government has constituted two committees, one for Kashmir Province and another for Jammu Province to examine the issue of phased withdrawal of AFSPA from Districts that have witnessed significant decrease in militancy related activities and seen sustained peace.
Kichloo said several districts especially in Jammu Province have witnessed sustained peace and normalisation, as such once the committee submits its report to the State government, the matter will be discussed and taken up for consultation with the Union Government. However, he said there is no question of removing AFSFA from those Districts where militancy exists and has influence.
The Minister was replying to a resolution moved by Dr Bashir Ahmad Veeri seeking revocation of AFSPA from Srinagar, Budgam, Ganderbal, Anantnag, Jammu, Udhampur, Samba and Kathua in the back drop of normalization of situation in the state and Justice Verma committee recommendations.
The resolution was seconded by Syed Rafiq Shah. Mr Jahangir Mir also took part in the private members resolution.
