Delay in Works Due to Non Clearance Of Bills: JKCCCC

SRINAGAR: Hitting back at the government, the Valley based contractors Saturday claimed that the government owes them bills worth Rs 200 crore and delayed release of funds was the main reason for delay in development works.

General Secretary, the Jammu and Kashmir Central Contractors Coordination Committee (JKCCCC), Farooq Ahmad Dar, also alleged that Jammu and Ladakh regions have been getting more share and favour at the cost of development sector in the Kashmir valley.

The contractors were reacting to the statement, made by the R&B Minister in the on-going Budget Session of the J&K Legislative Assembly that all the three regionsJammu, Srinagar and Ladakh—were getting equal share in allocation of development funds and it is the lethargic approach of the contractors that development works are not being completed on time.

Terming the statement as new bottle in old wine Dar alleged that the state government was used to such behavior to save its skin because of sheer discrimination being meted out to the Kashmir region.

He also said that the government wants to twist the facts regarding disparity in allocation of funds for developmental works in the Kashmir region.

He further said that the government has chosen to blame contractors for its follies and failures regarding the time bound execution of developmental works. The Valley is being given a step motherly treatment as hundreds of crore of rupees have been diverted to Jammu and Ladakh, he claimed.
