SRINAGAR Ahead of R-Day in Kashmir, government forces step up more barricades and intensified frisking across Kashmir Valley.
Reports said government forces have been deployed in strength at strategic locations in the city to prevent militants from moving around.
The law enforcing agencies were seen carrying out random frisking and searches of vehicles entering the city.
Like last year, the main January 26 function will be held at Sher-e-Kashmir Cricket Stadium instead of the regular venue — Bakshi Stadium, which is closed for renovations.
The area around the cricket stadium was sealed for full dress rehearsal of the R-Day Parade.
Traffic police has issued an advisory for movement of vehicles between the city centre and south Kashmir.
Reports of random frisking by government forces was received from other towns and district headquarters of the Valley.
Hurriyat Conference (M) Denounces Massive Frisking
Hurriyat Conference headed by Mirwaiz Umar Farooq has strongly denounced the massive frisking and search operation in run up to January 26, stating that this has resulted in big hardships for the general public as the entire Kashmir has been converted into a military fortress.
Indias Republic Day adds to the miseries of the people of Kashmir as search operations are intensified, people especially the youth harassed , roads blocked, vehicles checked, two-wheelers seized and people asked to prove their identity every 100 meters, said Hurriyat Conference in a statement issued here.
Hurriyat Conference paid glowing tributes to three armed youth at Binner village of BaramullaShoaib Farooq Akhoon, Mohsin Mushtaq Bhat, and Nasir Ahmed Darzi, stating that the sacrifices rendered by the youth have once again clarified that the people of Kashmir are engaged in a sacred struggle to free their homeland from the clutches of occupation and illegal control.
Hurriyat Conference said that Kashmirs young lot is being pushed to wall through ultimate oppression and left with the no option other than to pick up arms to fight the repression.
The spokesman said that Kashmir issue was purely political in nature and the dispute can be resolved by means of sustained dialogue with all the stake holders but GOIs intransigence and military approach is pushing an entire generation of Kashmiris towards picking up arms, the spokesman said.
