KUPWARA: Hundreds of people today locked the Community Health Centre at Kupwara in protests against non-availability of doctors and poor healthcare services.
The protestors demanded availability of sufficient staff at the hospital apart from provision of necessary medical services including ambulatory services.
Only paramedical staff was present in the hospital since Thursday while doctors were not available in the hospital. Even the staff refused to provide ambulance services to people, the protestors said.
Angry patients and attendants today locked up the hospital in protest after which police had to intervene. The protestors decried indifference on part of authrotiies despite repeated appeals to improve the overall functioning of the hospital.
No one come to help us since yesterday. Even no doctor was available no transport is being provided to us. Our patients are very ill we don’t know what we should do. We had come here for treatment but the authorities are not paying attention, said one attendant Zubair Ahmad From Kupwara.
Meanwhile, BMO Kupwara Dr Gh Nabi Lone dismissed allegations of non availability of staff or denial of services to patients. Staff always remains available and they try their best to treat patients. There are no problem as regards ambulance services either, he said. (KNS)
