SRINAGAR At least twelve persons were injured, one of them critically, in bullet and pellet firing by government forces against youth at Shopians Sugan, the native village of Zeenat-ul-Islam, the top Al-Badr commander who was killed along with his associate in Yaipora area of south Kashmirs Kulgam district.
Reports said that government forces had laid barricades to prevent entry of people to Sugan in a bid to prevent massive funeral for Zeenat-ul-Islam. After the first round of funeral, the government forces allegedly ventured inside the village, leading to clashes, reported news agency GNS,
The government forces resorted to bullet-firing leading injuries to five persons with one of them Bilal Ahmad Wani being critical with an injury in the head.
Bilal Wani, a resident of Batnoor, along with other four injured persons including Sameer Ganie of Chatragam, Zainapora, Mehraj-ud-Din Dar of Sugan, Muzamil Ahmad of Sugan have been shifted to local hospital from where four of them, except Muzamil and other whose identity could not be ascertained immediately, were shifted to SMHS hospital for specialized treatment here.
A girl identified as Shoki was hit by Casper vehicle and she has been also shifted to Shopian hospital.
The condition of Bilal is said to be critical at SHMS hospital, the official said.
Six more pellets wounded youth were taken to district hospital Pulwama for treatment.
The authorities have removed the deployment and barricades after the situation took an ugly turn.
The barricades have now been lifted and deployment of army, police and CRPF has now been removed after injuring our youths, one of whom is critical, said a local. They tried to prevent the funeral and nobody on earth can prevent us from discharging a religious obligation more so when it is about youths who lay lives for our collective cause.
Zeenat-ul-Islam alias Dr Usman and his associate Shakeel Ahmad Dar of Chillipora Shopian were killed in a brief encounter At Kathpora village in Yaripora.
Meanwhile, multiple rounds of funerals were offered to both the militants in their respective native villages.
