A decade ago, Google was incorporated, though Google.com as a simple search engine to organize jumbled, haphazard data into information and make it universally accessible and to figure out into how things work out in virtual world. And no one would have an imagination even in their wildest dreams about its transformation into a multinational corporate leader and a star performer as a database provider. The Google search engine has become so popular in the modern era, even still being in its introductory initial stage, that it is now listed as a verb in the dictionary. Co-founded by Larry Page and Sergey Brin while students at Stanford University Google has come a long way from its beginning as a university project to a billion-dollar company. Google wasn’t one of those revolutionary technologies because it provided a search engine but it changed the game because it did search pretty well than other search engines.
Googles mission from the very beginning was to organize worlds information and to make it universally accessible and useful and undoubtly they have achieved this. The worlds data base now resides in a pocket of a person and accessible at any juncture of time. If the Internet was a galaxy, Google becomes the black hole at its centre.
I was born in the times when hard bound, paper jacketed information in the books had lot of significance and facts and knowledge from such reliable sources had regards of authentication. The essence of the books was such that it was bliss to have a possession of one. Inferences cannot be deduced that the old style of hard-bound information on books was efficient than the new technical database management. Knowledge on the hard copies of paper had much palpitating and brain storming enhancement. All the facts contained in the books needed a brain to absorb the data contained in them rather in the new technical search engine. But what if the Google has a downturn, which is a remote idea though, it will have a contagious effect on other aspects and search engines too. Google surfing has become an essential parameter in lives to check out the authenticity of anything. Recently we had a discussion on being a techno-freak and in the middle of the discussion one person just contributed the sentence why dont you google it. There was a pin drop silence and almost everyone agreed on the part that we should opt for google and get a better idea.
This is where were we left-out our instincts and gave up on abilities of problem solving. Digitalisation had compacted the data and mannered it on such an efficient frontier that its usage created efficiencies in the system.
But the advancement in the technology has its own implications when we resort completely on it. The over-dependency on behalf of people over the technology has halted the lives in one or the other way. The over-dependency on google has serious aftermaths as we take things for granted, have abandoned the virtues like to analyze, conclude rationally things. Google, a virtual world where even how to open & read a book procedure are indexed and explained, is no-where near level-headness of books and teachers. Young students and researchers are losing the power of critical analysis due to their dependence on google. It has become a short-cut for them to get their questions answered. We are adhering to google it rather developing a rational approach to derive and strive to get our questions answered. Goggling is degrading the research capability and passing an increment of laziness to the masses. The rational approach and a skilful mind is a better asset than an I-toy that goggles things for you. Over dependency on the search engine is depriving us from basic approach of brain usage. Techno-advancements should not come to halt but our dependence on them should have a reality check. Googling everything that come your way rather than mere thinking is an indices of letting off your rationalism approach adjective. This certainly wears-off you and makes you thin-skinned. The google episode should be part of learning rather than being a dependent variable for your mindset, it should not thin out our mind’s eye and have a hampering effect on brain-storming activity of generating novel ideas.
Let our ideas flow in such a way that we analyze things by ourselves rather on being habitual of getting our answers right by the search engine. We should resort more on our rational thinking and the pearls from the teachers, which certainly evokes our creative juices. The search engine should be a part of learning rather a last resort to get our problems addressed. We should adhere to the books, our best friends and listen to the approaches of teachers, elders rather opting to the Google. Although google does provide us with a vast platform for data base but the bottom-line is WHAT IF GOOGLE SHUTS ITS OPERATION?
The question remains unanswered and the need of Google it seems to be the answer for the same.
