SRINAGAR: A 12-year-old boy has been hospitalised in the northern township of Handwara after being beaten mercilessly by his madrasa teacher, reports said.
Doctors at the local sub-district hospital where the boy was admitted and kept under observation said that Danish Manzoor bore torture marks, and the wounds would take some time to heal.
The boy had been severely beaten by one Molvi Saifuddin at the Daar-ul-Uloom Tafheem-ul-Quran in the Bandi Mohalla area of the town
He had apparently been punished for not reciting the Holy Quran in time.
A police party has been dispatched to Molvi Saifuddins native village in Zachaldara where he is suspected to have fled.
The boys family said that the teacher had locked Danish up in a room and tied him with ropes.
My son somehow managed to escape from the clutches of the teacher, Danishs father, Manzoor Ahmad, said. We were appalled at his condition, and took him to local doctors who shifted him to the sub-district hospital for treatment.
The Daar-ul-Uloom management has suspended the teacher, and said that it would bear all expenses for the boys treatment.
We will help the police to nab the teacher, and provide monetary assistance to the boys family, Molvi Muhammad Iqbal, who is on the madrasa management, said.
