SRINAGAR: Vigilance sleuths caught a senior engineer red-handed accepting a bribe in Kupwara, and put him under arrest, reports said.
The executive engineer of the R and Bs Kupwara division was caught taking Rs 5000 for passing a contractors bill, the Vigilance said.
The Vigilance men were acting on a complaint by a contractor, Gulzar Ahmad, of Rashampora that the engineer, Muhammad Shafi Bhat, had demanded a bribe to clear his pending bills.
There, however, were protests later by some contractors against the Vigilance, saying that its men had trapped a nice person with a view to tarnish his image.
