SRINAGAR Chairman Selection-cum-Oversight Committee (SCOC), Justice Hasnain Masoodi has asked the chairperson of the BOSE to conduct examination of Ubaid Nazir Bhat, a class 12-th student from Shopian, who couldnt appear in the exam due to his detention. Ubaid, who is less than 18 years of age, was on 29 October picked by police station Imam Saheb reportedly in place of his brother and detained and later let off after two days.
Ubaid due to illegal detention missed his Class XII exam in EVS and may loose an academic year for no fault, said Masoodi. The student had approached BOSE authorities a number of times with the request to hold his exam, but they didnt accept his request citing administrative costs as the reason.
Justice Masoodi spoke to Veena Pandita Chairperson BOSE and requested her to intervene in the matter and ensure that exam of Ubaid is taken and his academic year was saved. The costs however huge, it was emphasized, cannot justify denial of fundamental rights, he said.
Justice Masoodi has asked the authorities not to summon children to police stations and detain them in the name of counselling as such practice would amount to gross violation of juvenile justice Act.
