SRINAGAR: The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a petition by the J and K government contesting a state High Court order to remove or transfer the then deputy commissioner of the Srinagar district for his alleged involvement in the Gulmarg land scam.
In a hearing today, a division bench of the Supreme Court termed the J and governments special leave petition (SLP) as withdrawn after state counsel said that the High Court order had been implemented by transferring the officer.
Deputy commissioner Baseer Ahmad Khan was shifted from his position in a major administrative reshuffle ordered by the government on Friday in which a number of senior bureaucrats too were transferred.
Legal experts here said that the SCs dismissing of the state governments SLP, amounting to upholding the High Court order, had set a precedent in Jammu and Kashmir to keep tainted officers away from high positions.
