SRINAGAR The Sheikh-ul- Alam boys hostels celebrated the annual day on the theme Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel in the premises of hostels at Zakura campus of University of Kashmir.
The program was organized by boarders of the hostels in collaboration with university administration in which Vice Chancellor Prof. Talat Ahmad was the chief guest.
Provost Prof G.N Khaki, Controller of Examinations Prof. Farooq A. Mir, Dean Students Welfare Prof. Rais A.Qadri, Chief Proctor, Prof. Naseer Iqbal, Joint Registrar, Asmat Kawoosa, Warden Sheikh ul Alam Boys hostels, Dr. Javaid A. Sheikh and all the wardens of Boys and Girls hostels graced the occasion.
During the celebration different cultural and literary activities were performed and exhibited by different participants of the hostel and boarders who had won prizes during the Seerat un- Nabi (SAW) conference held earlier in the hostel. They were awarded by the dignitaries present including Vice Chancellor.
The boarders of the hostel presented traditional Kashmiri Pheran and Kangri besides a shawl to Vice-Chancellor to showcase Kashmiri culture and tradition.
Vice Chancellor in his speech stressed the need to introduce different mechanisms for making the University of Kashmir one of the premier institutions of the country.
He also reiterated the globalized perspective of knowledge production by the students and deliberated on making the University more progressive in research environment. He stressed on the inculcating more rational critical approach among the students towards the academic set-up.
Prof. Talat Ahmad also stressed upon the need of interdisciplinary academic and research activities in the university system.
He also assured all the boarders that administration will provide necessary facilities in the hostels.
Dr Javaid in his welcome address thanked VC and said that Prof. Talat Ahmad proved himself as an epitome for others to follow. On the occasion vote of thanks on behalf of University administration and the boarders was presented by Prof. G. N Khaki.
