SRINAGAR Jammu and Kashmir is among the eight new states in India which have achieved 100 percent electrification. The other states which have achieved 100 per cent household electrification under Pradhan Mantri Sahaj Bijli Har Ghar Yojana Saubhagya are Madhya Pradesh, Tripura, Bihar, Jammu and Kashmir, Mizoram, Sikkim, Telangana and West Bengal. Speaking to media after the Planning and Monitoring Meeting with states and Power Utilities in New Delhi, Power Minister R K Singh said, with this, total 15 States in the country have 100 per cent household electrification.
The scheme was launched in September last year with the objective to provide access to electricity to all the remaining households in the country. The Minister informed that as many as 2.1 crore connections have been released under Saubhagya so far. He said states like Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Chhattisgarh are left with a small number of un-electrified households and are expected to achieve saturation any time. Singh said, with the present pace of electrification the country is expected to achieve 100 per cent saturation in the country by 31st of this month.
He said achievement of 100 per cent household electrification in the country will be a major milestone in the direction to achieve 24×7 power for all.
The Minister said the government is committed to ensuring 24×7 access to electricity for all by 31 March next year.
