SRINAGAR Scores of Public Health Engineering (PHE) department employees Tuesday staged a sit-in protest in Bandipora against alleged thrashing of two of their colleagues by Army.
The PHE department employees assembled outside the office of Sub-Divisional Magistrate Sumbal, and staged a sit-in protest, demanding action against the government forces responsible for the thrashing of two PHE employees, who were on duty at Water Supply Scheme Hajin in Bandipora on Monday night.
Holding placards, which read, We want justice, the protesters said that they have decided to lock down all the WSSs in Sonawari constituency until accused army personnel were not punished. Two PHE employees, Firdous Ahmad Dar and Ashiq Ahmad Wani, were on night duty at WSS Hajin on Monday when Army personnel s entered the premises of the Water Supply Scheme and thrashed them without any provocation, the protesters alleged.
They said both Wani and Dar were doing their job and the army men beat them up without any reasons. Today it was them, tomorrow it could be me and any one of us, so we have decided to close all the WSSs till guilty are not punished, a protester said.
Wani and Dar, who had their arms plastered and visible bruises on their faces, were also present at the sit-in protest.
Two of our employees were ruthlessly beaten up by troops of 13 RR. They soldiers barged into the office during a search operation and targeted the employees without any reason and provocation, added another protesting employee.
The protesting employees demanded action against the erring government force personnel and threatened to go for an indefinite strike in case no action was initiated against the guilty.
A senior government official said that they have already taken up the matter with the top brass of Army who have assured probe into the incident.
