SRINAGAR A large number of National Conference womens workers Monday took out a protest march from party headquarters Nawa-e-Subah complex which moved through different streets to protest the frequent power cuts in Kashmir. NC Womens Wing President and MLA Habba Kadal, Shameema Firdous, who lead the demonstration criticized the Governors administration for not rising up to the occasion to mitigate the day to day woes of the people.
The winter has just set in and areas in the city are witnessing massive power outages. If this is the situation of power supply in the city, the situation in far flung areas can only be gauged, she said. Shameema said that the common people especially the student fraternity are at the receiving end of the grim scenario. The incumbent government, it seems has left citizenry to fend for themselves. They should have upgraded the power transmission set up to meet the ever increasing demands of the people, she said. She said the PDP-BJP government didnt do anything to augment the basic power distribution infrastructure. A government is supposed to foresee the increasing demands of the people, but to our consternation the former PDP-BJP government was busy blinding and bruising people, she said.
No big power project or water supply scheme was commissioned in the state under the former PDP-BJP regime. The state, especially the valley of Kashmir is reeling under darkness since government offices moved to Jammu, she said.
She said National Conference being a peoples representative cannot shut its eyes and ears to the mounting woes of people.
Today we were forced to take out a demonstration to awake the slumber ridden administration. The erratic power supply, the inconsistent water supplies have aggravated the peoples problems, she said.
