SRINAGAR Kashmiri Author and Academic Shahnaz Bashir has been appointed a foundational juror for the first global journalism prize True Story Award to be given each year to best long-form published from all over the world. The prize had been instituted in Bern, Switzerland by Reportagenmagazine in collaboration with a specially-created foundation which each year will give away prizes of 30,000 Swiss Francs (2180400 INR) each to the best three long forms.
The Inaugural Global Reporter Prize 2019will be in an award ceremony which will be held as part of Reporter Festival Bern on August 31, 2019, in the Bern Theatre, Switzerland.
The Award has juries in almost all major regions and languages of the world including senior journalists from New Yorker magazine as well as other globally known journalists. Nobel Laureate Literature 2015, journalist Svetlana Alexiewich is one of five high-profile persons in the Advisory Board of the Award. Shahnaz Bashir is the main juror for South Asia Jury which will judge best narrative journalism published each year in the region. The jury includes other famous journalists and writers from India and Nepal like P Sainath and Manjushree Thapa.
Shahnaz Bashir is an award-winning Kashmiri writer known for his two books The Half Mother and Scattered Souls. He teaches narrative journalism and conflict reporting at the Central University of Kashmir.
