SRINAGAR A woman with six months pregnancy was killed in cross firing between militants and army at Shadimarg in Pulwama district of South Kashmir on Friday evening, police said. Elsewhere, two militants were claimed to have been killed in a brief encounter in Baramulla.
SSP Pulwama Chandhan Kohli said that militants fired 2 UBGL and followed it by firing on camp of armys 44 RR.
He said Firdousa wife of Khurshed Ahmad Sheikh of Qasba-yar Shadimarg received bullet injury in the ‘cross fire’. She was taken to Rajpora hospital, from there she was referred to district hospital Pulwama where she breathed her last. Sources said that woman had six months pregnancy. The incident could not be independently verified.
Meanwhile, two militants were killed were claimed to have been killed in the brief shootout with government forces in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district on Friday.
A police spokesman said the militants travelling in a passenger vehicle ( Scorpio-JK01-L5792) were signalled to stop at a naka at Kralhaar.
He said the militants opened fire on a naka party. In retaliation, both the militants were killed, he added.
“An AK series rifle, magazine, UBGL, two Chinese pistols, six magazines, three grenades and two UBGL grenades were recovered from the possession of slain militants,” the official said.
The driver has been arrested and the vehicle seized, the officer said.
He said a case FIR No 176/2018 was registered at Police Station Baramulla and investigation was taken up.
Meanwhile, Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) has said two of its men including district commander Baramulla Faizan and Abdul Wahab were killed in a shootout in north Kashmirs Baramulla district, on Friday.
A JeM spokesperson in a statement issued here to local news agency GNS said the struggle against Indian forces will continue.
He added, Indian forces will have to pay a heavy price for the oppression they unleashed upon the people of Pulwama. Jaish-e-Mohammad stands by people at this hour of grief.
