SRINAGAR A large number of residents of north Kashmir areas of Kupwara and Baramulla Thursday lodged a protest against Power Development Department (PDD) for frequent power cuts in their areas.
Local residents of Kupwara and its outskirts said that the PDD doesnt adhere to the schedule due to which the students preparing for examination are facing hardships. When PDD installed meters in our area we were told that we would get power supply round the clock, but their promises turned out to be a hoax, residents said.
The situation in un-metered and remote villages of Kupwara, Baramulla, Bandipora and Lolab is no different and people are facing acute power shortage. In Drugmulla, Vodhpora, Muhgalpora, power supplied from Arampora grid station is disrupted after every half an hour. PDD resorts to continuous power cuts, said a local resident of Kupwara.
Residents of Hajin, Sopore and other areas of North Kashmir complained that power cuts during the night hours puts them through an ordeal.
Unscheduled power cuts have become order of the day and students are the worst sufferers, said a resident, Faizan Ahmad.
