5 Militants Killed In Pulwama, Uri 

SRINAGAR — Five militants including one who had jointed Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen outfit fortnight back, were killed in two separate encounters in Pulwama district of south Kashmir and Boniyar Uri in Baramulla district of north Kashmir, police and a local news agency quoting sources said on Thursday.  

Police claimed to have killed a newly-recruited militant in a brief shootout at a village in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district late Wednesday night.

A police official said that a joint team of army’s 50 RR and SOG personnel had set up a Nakka at Dougam Kakapora following inputs about the presence of militants 11:30 pm.

The gunfight broke out after the joint team of forces challenged the movement of the militants.

In the brief shootout, a militant has been killed, he said and identified the slain militant as Showkat Ahmad Bhat, a resident of Padgampora, Awantipora.

Bhat had joined militancy on October 2 and was associated with Tehreek-ul-Mujahideen, he said.

Meanwhile, police in a tweet said that the slain was wanted in yesterday’s grenade attack in Pattan area of north Kashmir’s Baramulla district that left three cops, including an officer, wounded.

Meanwhile, thousands of people attended his funeral prayers. The slain was later laid to rest amid pro-freedom slogans.  

Separately, four militants were killed in an encounter with government forces forests of Boniyar, a local news agency GNS reported.

A search party of army’s 5 Grenadier intercepted a group of militants at Torna post in the woods of Boniyar at around 8:30 a.m.

After being intercepted, the militants opened fire, triggering off the gunfight which according to sources continued intermittently till 12:30 pm.

An army officer also confirmed the incident and said that four unidentified militants have been killed and their identity and group affiliation are being ascertained. He said since the area has tough terrain, bodies are being carried to police station and will be possible handover tomorrow. 

“Three bodies were recovered at around 1:30 pm and later one more body was recovered late in the evening as the area is a high terrain and have dense forest cover,” the officer added.  

DGP Visits 5 Injured Cops In Army Hospital 

Director General of Police J&K Dilbag Singh IPS on Friday visited 92 Base hospital at Srinagar and enquired about the health and welfare of Police personnel who sustained injuries in different incidents across valley and are under going treatment there.

Five police personnel including a DySP and Sub Inspector were injured in different incidents at Pattan, Fateh Kadal and Sogam and were evacuated to 92 base hospital for medical treatment.

DySP Zaffar Mehdi and three other personnel were injured when militants hurled a grenade at them during checking of vehicles in Pattan yesterday. One of the militant namely Faizan involved in this incident was apprehended immediately  after the incident while another militant Showkat was killed in a brief encounter at Durgam Kakpora last night, a police spokesman cliamed.

The other two personnel were injured in the Fatekadal encounter and “law and order” incident in Kupwara, the spokesman said. 

The DGP J&K went to all the injured individually and enquired about their well being. He was briefed by the hospital authorities about the treatment being administered to the injured officials.

Besides, DGP also handed over cheques for financial assistance in favour of some of them. DGP wished for the speedy recovery of the injured officials and assured them that all help will be provided to them.
