SRINAGAR Keeping alive the tradition of brotherhood, the members of majority community on Monday served refreshments to the mourners during a Muharram procession in Rainawari area of the Old City.
Reports said that in a heartwarming gesture, the residents of Naidyar in Rainawari this afternoon erected stalls to offer refreshments to the mourners during the procession on the sixth day of the Muharram. The stall raised in Naidyar chowk had volunteers from different adjoining localities and was overlooked by the members of the Intizamia committee Masjid-e-Abu Bakar (RA).
The refreshments were offered till the procession passed through the locality and conclude at the Imambargah Hassanabad. Representatives of resistance groups, including Hurriyat Conference factions led by Syed Ali Geelani and Mirwaiz Umer Farooq besides Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) also visited the camp and hailed the members of both the groups for maintaining the bond of peace, amity and brotherhood.
Every year on this day of Muharram, we offer refreshments to the mourners who pass through the locality in a procession. This camp is organized to convey a message to the people that we stand united, Haji Nazir Ahmad, president Intizamia committee Masjid-e-Abu Bakar (RA) said.
Mohammad Yasin Khan, President Hussaini Welfare Organization expressed gratitude to the members of Majority community for holding camp. He said in these difficult times, such camps serve as an example of peace and brotherhood. (GNS)
