SRINAGAR Militants released policemen and an SPO besides kin and kith of ten other cops on Friday, a day after abducting them following the arrest by police of Hizb-ul-Mujahideen commander Riyaz Naikoos father and relatives of other militants in South Kashmir. Their freedom came soon after police released 70 year old Asadullah Naikoo.
Those released by militants include Irfan Gulzar of Rahomo Pulwama, a Sub-Inspector of police, Javeed Ahmad Dar (SPO at DPL Pulwama), Constable Shabir Ahmad Zargar of Kangan Pulwama, Adnan Ashraf Shah of Shopian (nephew of a DSP), Faizan Bashir Makroo of Kharpora Arwani, whose two uncles are in police, Zubair Ahmad Bhat of Arwani whose two brothers are working in police, Ghulam Mohd Dar of Kangan Pulwama, whose two sons are in police, Arif Hussain Shanker of Arwani whose brother is working in police department, Asif Rafiq son of a policeman, Nasir Ahmad, also son of a policeman and Yasir Arfat Bhat son of Sub-Inspector of Police of Wathoo Shopian.
The militants also released separate videos of all the eleven persons and they are seen appealing Director General of police S P Vaid not to harass families of the militants. Otherwise provide security to us, Irfan Gulzar, a Sub-Inspector with police, is heard urging the DGP. Similarly, the identical message is heard in other videos also.
Meanwhile a Paramilitary trooper’s son who was abducted in Bijbehara area of south Kashmir’s Anantnag district on Friday was released late this evening.
Official sources said that the militants today in the evening abducted Shariq Ahmad Bhat son of a CRPF man Farooq Ahmad of Zirpara, Bijbehara. However, Shariq was later released in the evening.
Naikoo’s Father Released
Police on Friday released the father of Hizbul Mujahideen operational commander Riyaz Naikoo after he was detained during a night raid on Wednesday.
A senior police official confirmed the release of Naikoo’s father, Asadullah Naikoo.
“We have released him after some questioning,” said an official.
Asadullah and five others were detained by the police during night raids in several areas of Awantipora on Wednesday.
Police has been frequently detaining Asadullah to put pressure on his militant son to give up but without any success.
