SRINAGAR The 653rd Urs of Hazrat Mir Syed Ali Hamadani (RA) popularly known as Shah-e-Hamdani and Amir-e-Kabir was observed in the Valley on Saturday with religious fervor and enthusiasm.
Syed Ali bin Shahab-ud-Din Hamadani Abidi (1314-1384) also known as “Shah Hamdan” (King of Hamadan) and as Amir-e Kabir (the Great Commander) was a Persian Sufi and a prominent Islamic mystic, Islamic scholar and a great reformer. He was very influential in spreading Islam in Kashmir and has had a major hand in shaping the culture of Kashmir and contributed greatly in economic upliftment of Kashmiris.
He introduced the skills of famed Iranian handicrafts amongst the people for which Kashmir later became famous all over the world.
Every year,on 6th Zilhaj of lunar year devout in Kashmir observe his Urs and throng his hospice, the Khanqah-e-Maula in thousands.
On Saturday as usual thousands of devotees throng the riverside shrine where they recited verses from Holy Quran and awrad or Persian dua’s as taught by the great saint.
Scholars shed light on the life and achievements of Shah Hamdan. They expressed hope that the teachings of Shah-e-Hamdan shall remain alive in all times to come.
The Urs was organized by Muslim Waqaf Board.
The Urs was also observed with religious fervor at Khankah Faizpanah Tral, Jinab Sahab Soura, Aasar Sharif Kalashpora, Kabamarg and Khiram Sirhama in Anantnag, Dooru Seer Hamdan, Aham Sharif Bandipora, Budgam, Kupwara and Bandipora.
Mirwaiz Pays Tributes to Ameer-e-Kabeer
Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema patron and Hurriyat Conference (M) chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq paid rich tributes to the revered saint and the founder of Islam in Kashmir Hazrat Ameer-e-Kabeer Mir Sayed Ali Hamadani (RA) on his annual Urs.
Mirwaiz said that Shah-e-Hamdan (RA) was a not only a great scholar and a religious leader but also a philosopher, writer and traveler. He said that Shah-e-Hamadan was an intellectual of high repute who contributed much for spread of Islamic faith through his teachings, publications, and personal propagation. Mirwaiz said that Amir Kabeer spent his life in propagating Islam and undertook several extensive tours through difficult terrains and over hazardous routes to persuade thousands to embrace Islam.
Mirwaiz said it was because of the efforts of the Ameer Kabeer that people of Kashmir embraced the greatest religion of Islam forever. Mirwaiz said the teachings of Mir Syed Ali did not spread only the word of Allah, but he also brought with him art, craft, skills and industry which boosted the economy of Kashmir and brought economic revolution.
He said due to those skills and crafts Kashmiris earned global fame for hundreds of years.
Mirwaiz urged people of Kashmir to follow the footsteps of the great saint to get closer to the Almighty Allah and his beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW) as that’s the best way to show our affiliation and respect to the great scholar.
