South Kashmir District Observes Spontaneous Shutdown
SRINAGAR At least 25 protesters were injured on Monday when they clashed with the security forces in south Kashmir’s Kulgam district.
Police officials said dozens of protesters clashed with the security forces in Wani Mohalla in Khudwani area where a cordon and search operation was going on.
“Security forces used tear smoke canisters and pellet guns to quell the protesters.
“At least 25 protesters were injured in these clashes. One of the injured, Raqeeb Ahmad, was hit by a tear smoke shell on his head. He was referred to Srinagar for specialised treatment,” an official said.
Sources at sub-district hospital Qaimoh also confirmed that twenty-five persons with pellet injuries were brought to the facility for treatment. Six with pellet injuries in eyes were referred to district hospital Anantnag, they said.
Security forces killed three militants, including two locals and a Pakistan national, in a gunfight in the same area on Sunday.
A spontaneous shutdown was observed in Kulgam district as all shops and other commercial establishments were closed while public transport was off the roads. No separatist or militant organisation had called for shutdown.
Three LeT militants, Suhail Ahmad Dar of Redwani Bala, Mudassir Ahmad alias Rehaan of Katrasoo and Abu Muawiya, a non-local, were killed in a gunfight with the forces at Wani Mohalla in Khudwani area of Kulgam yesterday morning.
Police has claimed that the trio was involved in the abduction and killing of a constable Mohd Saleem who was found dead on Saturday afternoon in Ghat area of Qaimoh.
“25 persons with pellet injuries were brought to Qaimoh Health Centre for treatment. 6 with pellet injuries in eyes were referred to district hospital Anantnag”.
