SRINAGAR Three militants were Sunday killed in a gunfight with government forces in Khudwani area of Kulgam district of south Kashmir, police said.
3 (three) bodies of militants recovered with three weapons so far from encounter site, Vaid wrote on Twitter.
Earlier, the DGP said the militants were trapped in the encounter at Khudwani in Kulgam district of south Kashmir.
The encounter began this morning as forces launched a cordon and search operation in Khudwani after receiving specific intelligence input about the presence of militants in the area.
The search operation turned into a gun battle as the militants fired upon the search party of the forces who retaliated and in the ensuing gun fight, three militants were killed.
Concerted efforts of the security forces resulted in the elimination of the prime accused involved in yesterday’s abduction and killing of Constable Saleem Shah at Kulgam, a police spokesman said.
A police spokesman said on the basis of the incriminating materials seized, the killed militants were identified as Muawiya, a foreigner of Pakistani origin, Suhail Ahmad Dar, a resident of Redwani Balaa and Mudassar alias Rehaan of Katarsoo.
All of them were involved in the killing ofConstable Mohammad Saleem Shah, who was abducted and later killed by suspected militants in Kulgam district on Friday..
As per police records, the militants were affiliated with the proscribed militant outfit LeT (Lashkar-e-Toiba) and HM (Hizbul Mujahideen), the spokesman said.
Some arms and ammunition including, but not limited to, two AK 47 rifles and a carbine have also been recovered from the site of encounter, the spokesman said, adding police have registered a case and investigation has been initiated into the matter.
