SRINAGAR Two paramilitary troopers including an officer were killed and two others injured after militants attacked a CRPF party near Achabal in south Kashmirs Anantnag district on Friday.
Reports said that the militants fired indiscriminately upon the CRPF party of 96/D battalion at Achabal.
In the attack, three paramilitary troopers and a local sustained bullet wounds and were taken to nearby hospital for treatment where two critically injured CRPF men succumbed.
The deceased has been identified as Assistant Sub Inspector (ASI), ML Meena and Constable Sandeep Singh Yadav.
The third injured trooper was later shifted to Armys 92 base hospital Badamibagh, Srinagar for advanced treatment.
The injured civilian has been identified as Ghulam Rasool and is being treated in the district hospital. His condition is stated to be stable.
A senior police officer confirmed the attack and said that two CRPF troopers including the ASI died and two others suffered injuries.
He said that the area has been cordoned off and a hunt has been launched to nab the assailants.
Meanwhile Militant outfit Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) claimed responsibility for the attack.
Cadres of the outfit attacked the convoy of CRPF (ROP) at Achabal Chowk in which two including an officer have been killed and several suffered injuries, LeT spokesperson Dr Abdullah Ghanzavi said in a statement issued to local news agency GNS.
Our field intelligence has reports which suggest that the number of casualties has increased to five, the spokesperson said adding that more casualties are expected.
