SRINAGAR A militant was killed in an ongoing gunfight with government forces at Kandi forests of north Kashmir’s Kupwara district on Thursday.
An army officer said that the militant has been killed in a fresh gunfight late last evening. “The body of the slain militant was recovered today morning along with an AK- 47 rifle and other ammunations during the search operation in dense woods of Sadu Ganga in Kandi, he said.
He said that the identity of the slain and group affiliation is being ascertained. However, preliminary investigation revealed that the militant group belongs to LeT, he added.
The officer further said that the operation in the area is ongoing.
On Tuesday, an army commando of 3 PARA namely Sepoy Mukul Meena was killed while another soldier suffered injuries.
The operation was launched in the area on Tuesday late afternoon after army’s 47 RR and the group of militants had a stand-off, the army officer had said.
He had said that the militant group later managed to flee from the area, however, Wednesday in the afternoon was again intercepted with the help of additional reinforcements of army’s 3 PARA commandos.
