SRINAGAR In a shocking incident, a pregnant woman from Kupwara and an ailing baby were not permitted to get admitted in Lal Ded Hospital on Tuesday night. Despite, protest lodged by attendants, the hospital administration did nothing citing the strike of Resident Doctors. The protesting attendants spent the night in open.
Pertinently, resident doctors at all Government Medical College Hospitals, including Lal Ded, are on indefinite strike since 03 July.
Due to their strike, patients have been immensely suffering while patient care has drastically hit in all hospital falling within the purview of Government Medical College Srinagar.
Yesterday night, I realized, these are not doctors but butchers who care a fig for the human life. My wife was withering with pain and yet they didnt attend her, said Waseem Ahmed, a resident of Kupwara.
Meanwhile, following the intra-uterine death of a baby, attendants protest against doctors in the premises of LD Hospital. Protesters alleged that a many babies have died in the hospital due to doctors strike.
The protesters alleged that doctors are callous towards their hardship and are leaving patients to die. The irony is that Medical Superintendent is watching all this and he seems to be helpless, said an attendant. They said that it will be better for the administration to lock the gates and dont allow patients inside the hospital.
While seeking the intervention of Governor administration, the protesters demanded stringent punishment for the doctors who play with the lives of patients.
Resident doctors at all Government Medical College Hospitals, including Lal Ded, are on indefinite strike since 03 July. At least 30 doctors are posted at this maternity hospital. All of them were unavailable, forcing closure of antenatal services, routine investigations and patient services.
Medical superintendent LD Hospital, Dr Shabir Siddiq said that the baby who had died was a case of intra-uterine death. The lady was referred to us in the intervening night of Tuesday and Wednesday. She was yet to complete her term and the baby had died, he said.
Meanwhile, the government has decided to invoke
Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) to deal with the strike called by the doctors in various health institutions of the State.
The Government cant allow the hapless patients to suffer and in order to ensure that there is no disruption of healthcare services, it has been decided that ESMA would be invoked to deal with the strike called by the medicos, an official handout reads. (CNS)
