SRINAGAR Militants and army on Saturday exchanged fire at Panar woods of Bandipora in north Kashmir but there were no causalities reported in the incident.
A police officer said that a group of militants attacked army’s 14 RR which later retaliated but there was no injuries reported. Following the attack, army cordoned off the area and suspended the operation in wake of darkness. He said that it was not immediately known whether the militants managed to escape or are trapped in the forest.
This is the first attack after home minster Rajnath Singhs visit to Kashmir Valley.
During his visit to Valley, top security officials of Jammu and Kashmir disclosed to the Singh in Srinagar on Thursday last that the Operation Halt has been by and large a success.
In a presentation to Singh behind closed doors at Sher-i-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) the officials told him that there was 70 per cent success if not 100 per cent, in the more than three week long halt to the counter-insurgency operations.
